BRONX UPGRADES TO CORUS COLOUR COAT LINES SAVES TIME AND INCREASES SAFETY | |
Bronx Engineering, together with engineers from Corus Process Technology Department, have made several upgrades to their Colour Coat Lines at Shotton Works and Tafarnaubach resulting in increased operational efficiency and safer working practice.
An exit end scrap removal system to the Colour Coat Line at Tafarnaubach Works made significant savings in cost and time. By removing long lengths of unpainted strip using a Bronx designed high-speed Crop Shear, meant the end of small scrap pup coils being generated, which caused handling and storage problems in the past. This gave improved line efficiency, with up to 80 metres of scrap removal without significant loss of exit accumulator storage time. No scrap handling by line operators because the scrap is now removed to the outside of the building into a two-bin scrap segregation system automatically.
At Shotton Works an upgrade to the Stitcher allows the joint to be made in one stroke of the press saving substantial time in the accumulator.
At the exit end of two Coating Lines, Bronx Automatic Spool Loading Systems have been installed, allowing thick wall solid cardboard spools of dedicated strip width to be accurately loaded directly onto the recoiler mandrel, during coil change over, without manual lifting or entering the recoiler/belt wrapper area. This replaces the previous inadequate practice of manually inserting 2 slit cardboard spools into the coil bore during the packaging process.
